Ex-president Rawlings Reacts To S*x For Grades Documentary

Former president of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings has reacted to the BBC’s s*x for grades documentary which implicated two Ghanaian lecturers at the University of Ghana.

Reacting to the investigative piece when the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) paid a courtesy call on him at his office, the ex-president said he wants external markers to handle exams to curb the situation.

According to him, many brilliant students, particularly girls who refuse to succumb to their lecturers’ sexual demands end up “getting unfair deals” in their results whilst students who are weak academically get remarkable grades after exchanging themselves for the results.

“Apparently sometimes, the dumb ones, get upgraded; either first class or second class honours or whatever it is, when everybody knows that they are not worth it. Why should we be taking human beings through such humiliations [sex for grades], there is nothing “as bad and corruptible as breaking the moral fabric of society,” he said.
