A strange accident has residents of Techiman in shock and awe today after a Bank of Ghana bullion van and a fuel tanker collided.
The bullion van, carrying cash, burst open on collision, sending thousands of Ghana cedis flying into the air, according to myjoyonline.
The driver of the fuel tanker, Osman Zongo, reportedly died in the crash. Three others survived the crash but are said to be in critical condition – the driver of the bullion van, the assistant driver of the fuel tanker and the cashier of the bullion van.
The injured were initially rushed to the Techiman Holy Family Hospital but were then airlifted to the Komfo Ankoye Teaching Hospital.
After the crash, which occured around 1230 GMT, security personnel cordoned off the accident scene to gather the cash and transport it to police cells, where it’s currently being kept under guard.
Joynews reports the van contained as much as Ghc 60.5m.
