Ghanaian singer Barbara Naa Okailey Nyarko, better known by her stage as Okailey Verse (OV) has asked her critics to focus only on her music and not her appearance.
Many have slammed the Season 7 winner of MTN Hitmaker for her mode of dressing, however she says she is unperturbed by the criticism she is facing.
According to OV she wants to be an embodiment of African culture through music. She stated that she represent us, our culture and Africa, everything about her is African therefore her music should be the topic and not her personality.
“I am an artist and we are creative people, I think that should be of importance rather than how I appear,” she told Graphic Showbiz in an interview.
“The cowries in my hair are not from outside, they belong to us right here so I represent us, our culture and Africa. We should be allowed to do what will make us comfortable and when we are, it reflects in our delivery, as in the songs we churn out.”
