Another Nigerian artist has decided to take a stance against the ongoing violence against Nigerians in South Africa by cancelling an upcoming appearance in the southernmost African country.
Basketmouth, on the back of a similar cancellation by Tiwa Savage, has also announced he’s not going to proceed with an upcoming trip to South Africa.
Basketmouth was scheduled to appear at the Comic Choice Awards which is to be held this weekend.
Announcing his decision to pull out, the comedian born Bright Okpocha made it clear he was taking a stance against the disgusting xenophobic attacks.
“I am not sure how and when we got here. I won’t be attending the comics choice awards this weekend in South Africa as Scheduled. It might sound like a whisper but together our voices and the right actions will hopefully make a true difference. And real change can begin. But for today we stand,” he wrote.
Tiwa Savage, who has been very vocal in her displeasure over the attacks, also announced earlier today she’s pulling out of a DSTV program she was slated to perform at.
This looks like it might become a trend amongst Nigerian entertainers going forward.
