A Kenyan lawmaker was on the end of a horrible experience at work after she was kicked out of parliament for arriving with her suckling babe.
Zulekha Hassan, the representative for Kwale, was kicked out of the house by Speaker of the National Assembly, Hon. Chris Omulele.
Small incidents such as these illustrate why the continent lags behind others around the world, when things that should never happen in the 21st century continues to happen down here.
Omulele reportedly told the mother that her move was ‘unprecedented’ and could not be allowed.
A distraught Hassan addressed the media on what happened and said Parliament should have provisions to help mothers like her be able to work.
“I have tried really hard not to come with the baby, but today, I had an emergency, what was I supposed to do? Miss parliament? That’s why I just came with her,” she explained.

“I knew I would be staying here just for a while and later when my situation is better, I would go. But if there was a room or a creche or nursery, I would then be able to put my baby there.”
When asked by a journalist if her action was not a stunt, she said she has other children and if it was a stunt she would have done so a long time ago.
