A Ghanaian lady whose husband is getting ready to marry another lady has run to court to put the wedding on hold.
After discovering that her husband is set to marry another woman tomorrow, Josephine Kyeremeh sprinted to court today to try and procure a literal 11th-hour stoppage of the wedding.
In a petition filed today, August 2nd, Madam Kyeremeh is seeking for the impending wedding, which would be held tomorrow, August 3rd, to be stopped by the court.
Invitations for the wedding have been sent out and everything is set for tomorrow, but if she has her way nothing would happen.
In her petition, she reveals that she and the husband have separated since September 2018, but they have not legally divorced yet (at least not with her consent).
She claims the man obtained a divorce certificate without her knowledge thus it should be invalid as it was fraudulently obtained.
And since they haven’t been legally divorced, her now ex-husband cannot go ahead and marry again as it is a crime to marry two wives under the ordinance in Ghana.
Her affidavit reads, in part:
“The Respondent [Prince Osei Bonsu] and I have not lived together as man and wife since September 2018. On my blind side, my husband [Prince Osei Bonsu] obtained a certificate of divorce dated the 19th of September 2018 from the District Court in Asamankese and unknown to me, my husband got a lawful attorney to represent me in the purported divorce proceedings.
“Based on the fraudulently procured divorce certificate, the Respondent [Prince Osei Bonsu], is attempting to celebrate a marriage with one Evelyn Ayebie” and invitations have been sent out already to that effect.
“[Our marriage] has not been validly dissolved by the courts and as a result the Respondent [Prince Osei Bonsu], cannot purport to tie the knot with another woman.
“In the Circumstances, I pray this Honourable Court for a order restraining the Respondent [Prince Osei Bonsu] from conducting a wedding ceremony with Evelyn Ayebie pending the dissolution of the marriage between the Respondent [Prince Osei Bonsu]and I [Josephine Kyeremeh]”, the affidavit concluded.
