A new addition has been made to the list of countries whose citizens can travel into South Africa visa-free.
The Southernmost country on the continent has revealed through its Home Affairs Office that Ghanaians can now travel into the country without a need for a visa.
Ghana’s addition to an ever-growing list of countries able to enter South Africa without a visa is part of the latest update of that policy by the government.
Aside Ghana, citizens of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Cuba and Sao Tome and Principe would also enjoy the same privilege.
The new additions brings to 75 the number of countries whose citizens can enter South Africa without a visa, with 16 of them being on the African continent.
A statement released by the Home Affairs office announcing the update reads, in part:
“Out of the 193 countries who are member states of the United Nations, the Department has granted visa-free status to 75 countries. Of these 16 are in our continent and are SADC members and 59 are from all over the world.
“Today, we wish to announce an addition to our visa-free countries.
“These are:
“We will immediately enter into discussions with them about how a visa-free regime will work.
“We still have some homework to do for 3 countries whose combined populations make up close to 30% of the world’s population i.e. China, India and Nigeria.”
