As if life wasn’t already hard enough for Ghanaians, there is a new price increase in electricity bills just around the horizon.
In a press statement released Friday, June 21st, the Public Utilities and Regulatory Commission (PURC) have announced that effective July 1st, there would be an 11.7% in electricity tariffs.
The increase, the statement says, is to help in the recovery of total electricity revenue requirements.
The decision was arrived at following consultation with energy stakeholders.
With a barely appreciable standard of living and wages remaining stagnant, there is little justification for such a move.
However, the bureaucrats make their decisions irrespective of the effect on the populace.
The statement also adds that there would be a review of the water tariffs coming soon.
Hope you’re ready to pay more for electricity from July 1st.
