You Only Wish You Were A Saviour – Starr Fm’s Caleb Nii Boye Dresses Down ‘Sowutoum Jay-Z’ Medikal

Medikal’s nonsensical claim to being the saviour of rap in Ghana continues to be shred into pieces every passing day.

The ‘Omo Ada’ rapper, in a much-derided tweet, claimed to have saved Ghanaian rap from dying out four years ago.

Just hearing the sentence itself immediately sounds wrong but when you sit and think about it then you realize it’s pure trash.

Caleb Nii Boye, actor and producer with Starr Fm, has dissected the statement from Medikal and revealed why it’s complete bollocks.

THE SAVIOUR YOU WISHED TO BE

Hello Sowutoum Jay Z Medikal
Your growth in this rap game cannot be disputed because, you have been phenomenal for the past two years especially after you missed out at the 2017 edition of the VGMAs.

Infact I was one of the few who chastised the organisers after you went home with nothing after 7 nominations. Too Risky was too a “Good Song” to miss out but as George Quaye keeps saying all the time, An Artiste needs to win 2 of the 3 blocs namely Board, Academy and Public to win an award.
Let me say that apart from your hardwork in the past two years, your relationship with Sister Deborah and Fellaprecious Makafui also played a key role in your visibility in the game.

In an argument with my colleague at Starr1035FM, DJ Vyrusky Kofi Amoako he argued that, listening to most of your records which are mostly HIPHOP, you may have a point with your tweet and even challenged me to listen to your record CONNECT.

As I sat to write this, I managed to get this tune into my speakers and let me say you broke the rule of creativity by sounding like 7 different Ghanaian rappers namely E.L, Joey B, Sarkodie,Criss Waddle,Omar Sterling and Yaa Pono.

Should i call you a bad rapper? Hell No!! I agree that the Hiphop culture is full of bragging so it’s fine for you to do same.
But on the real how did you save GH rap? And did you say 4 years ago? So let me assume that the rap game was dying then.
Take a look at winners of the best rappers at VGMAs.

BEST RAPPER OF THE YEAR FROM 2010 TO 2019

2010:sarkodie
2011:Trigmatic
2012:Sarkodie
2013:Manifest
2014:Sarkodie
2015:El
2016:Sarkodie
2017Manifest
2018:Sarkodie
2019:Medikal

Sowutoum Jay Z, what’s ya view on the list you saw? Which of these rappers do you see as weak for you to compete with if truly the game had died for you to save it?

1. Maybe Trigmatic, because Trig has reformed totally from the style he entered the game with. Don’t forget his everlasting record MY LIFE and the impact it made on non- rap lovers.

2. Maybe E.L, because Elorm is seen more in the Azonto world than the HipHop genre, and also his silence in the game after he was crowned Artiste of the Year in 2016.

You noticed, I didn’t talk about M.anifest and Sarkodie, this is because when they both dropped God’Mc & Kanta respectively to throw shots at each other, the game wasn’t dying for you to even come save it. These two managed to get people on the other side who weren’t enthused about rap to talk about them.

Don’t forget that, this was exactly a year after you claimed you saved Ghana Rap.
Sarkodie won Best Rapper at the VGMAs in 2016 & 2018 within the 4 year period you claimed to have saved Rap in Ghana.
Couldnt he have saved it?

A year before you saved it, he( Sarkodie) released a double disk album- Sarkology.
We saw its impact in this country.

A year after you saved it, M.anifest released No where Cool Album which led him to win Best Rapper at the VGMAs in 2017.

2 years after u saved it, You released the Disturbation album with some beautiful songs namely Too Risky,Gimme Vibe, Beautiful Africa & Confirm. This was the Album u released singles of it that made u Walk Alone at the VGMAs after grabbing 7 nominations.

So where exactly did you save Ghana rap and what process did you use? Did you save it at Sowutoum, where you are King Kong, or in Tema where you are a surrogate to Criss Waddle anaaa Kpando Senior High, where Fella Makafui schooled?

While the RAP culture have always been deeply fascinating, offering frissons of thrill, glimpses of a glorious future.

The modern RAP culture have gradually turned into pure bragging.

Well, I agree to George M. Britton Facebook post on you understanding the game now and been SMART, but that isn’t enough to save a vibrant genre.

Let’s pray for TeePhlow GH / Strongman Burner / Martin KingArthur and Medikal to beef 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

Maybe Medikal might tell us a different story .
