World renowned financial magazine Forbes has released its annual list of the highest paid athletes in the world.
Despite being ranked No.1 in 2018, Floyd ‘Money’ Mayweather is nowhere to be found on this year’s list.
The undefeated boxer who prides himself on his wealth had a quiet 2019 with no major activities to bring the huge amounts of money needed to remain on the list.
In his absence, his position was taken over by footballer Lionel Messi, who together with great rivals Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr. formed the top three highest paid athletes in the world.
Messi earned a whopping $127m in income in the year under review, finishing ahead of Ronaldo on $109m and Neymar on $105m.
They are followed on the list by boxer Saul Canelo Alvarez and tennis legend Roger Federer.
Sports is incredibly lucrative all over the world, with American football stars Russell Wilson and Aaron Rodgers coming in 6th and 7th respectively whilst basketball stars LeBron James, Stephen Curry and Kevin Durant complete the top ten.
Gone are the days when parents would look down on children for daring to be sportsmen. Nowadays if they don’t even want to some parents would be pushing them in, LOL. This list is the reason why.
