‘Shatta Wale Could Be Serving A Three Year Jail Sentence For What He Did At VGMA’ — Says Lawyer Samson Lardy Anyenini

For what the Shatta Movement boss, Shatta Wale did at the just ended Vodafone Ghana Music Awards night that has even resulted in him being banned from taking part in any VGMA events, a renowned legal practitioner, Lawyer Samson Lardy Anyenini has commented on it.

According to him, Shatta Wale could be put behind bars for three years. He explained that if the Police had tried to stop Shatta Wale and his militants from going to the stage, and they forcefully made their way through, then Shatta Wale and be put behind bars for obstructing the police from executing their work — an offence which is punishable up to 3 years imprisonment.

He said; “If the police were stopping Shatta and his team from accessing the stage, as reported, and they forced their way up there, they could also be up for the offence of obstructing the police officers from executing their job. This also attracts up to 3 years in jail if a court exercises the option of a custodial sentence instead of a fine.”

The lawyer added, “If they take the view that the conduct amounts to the prohibited riotous behaviour including that conducive to breach of the peace, and are successful in proving the same in court, the accused is liable to up to 3 years in jail or may be made to pay a fine, sign a bond to be of good behaviour… “The punishment depends on the gravity of the prohibited conduct,” he said.
