There’s No Way ‘My Level’ Is A Highlife Song – Musicologist

Many Ghanaians have expressed their disappointment on why Shatta Wale’s ‘My Level’ should win highlife song of the year award, when there are pure highlife songs from Kuami Eugene, Daddy Lumba and the rest.

Also, British born musicologist, Professor John Collins has expressed surprise on why ‘My Level’ should be categorize as a highlife music.

In an interview with Joy FM’s Israel Laryea, the music professor noted that Shatta Wale’s ‘My Level’ is afro-dancehall and not highlife as Chaterhouse has made Ghanaians believe.

He explained that, although there is element of highlife in the song, its displayed much more dancehall qualities that classifies it in that category.

According to Professor John Collins, Kidi’s ‘Thunder’ and King Promise’s ‘CCTV’ are also not highlife songs but afro-pop.
