The shortest retirement in Ghanaian football history is now over after just about two days.
Former Black Stars captain and certified ‘drama queen’, Asamoah ‘Baby Jet’ Gyan, has announced that he is changing his mind and returning to the Black Stars team.
Asamoah Gyan says he has been begged by the President himself to return to the team and therefore he has rescinded his decision to retire.
Gyan announced his retirement Monday after revealing coach Kwesi Appiah had stripped him of the captaincy. According to him, he has no inclination to play for the team when he has been stripped of the captaincy.
However, the President, after discussing the issue with Appiah yesterday, called Gyan to beg him to change his mind.
Gyan has now issued a statement revealing he would listen to the President and thus return to the team.
A presidential request is one that cannot be disregarded.
I have taken the request of His Excellency Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in good faith, and will make myself available for selection by coach Kwasi Appiah to help win the AFCON trophy @AnimSammy @PrinxRandy @BaffourGyan4 pic.twitter.com/WSlHZrjWrd
