VGMA Crowns Stonebwoy Dancehall King, Amakye Dede Crowns Kuami Eugene Highlife King; Where Do We Place Shatta Wale?

Published by

On the night of the 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards, Stonebwoy for the 5th time was crowned the ‘Reggae/Dancehall Artist of the Year’ with his arch-rival, Shatta Wale going home with ‘Highlife Song of the Year’ (My Level) even though he claims to be a Dancehall artist.

Music lovers on the night were surprised that a Dancehall artist such as Shatta Wale could be nominated in a Highlife category and even win it ─ beating typical Highlife musicians on the night to grab it.

Highlife legend, Amakye Dede after his creative performance with young and talented Kuami Eugene, crowned him Highlife King in the Ghanaian music industry and prophesied that he is the chosen one to take Highlife genre to the next level.

Currently, Stonebwoy is the Dancehall King in the Ghanaian music industry with Kuami Eugene having the bragging rights as the Highlife King kind courtesy, Amakye Dede.

Ghanaians are now confused as to where exactly should Shatta Wale be placed ─ Dancehall genre or Highlife genre? Well, since he won in the Highlife category with his Highlife song, ‘My Level’, a section of Ghanaians have labelled him as a Highlife musician and not Dancehall as he claims.

Shatta Wale has been left in the middle of Highlife and Dancehall genres ─ perhaps, music experts should bring up a new genre that befits his kind of songs.
