Africans Mistake Popularity for Being Rich — Nigerian Comedian AY

Nigerian comedian Ayo Makun, popularly known as AY, has called on fans of celebrities not to think that just because someone is popular, it means they are rich.

AY revealed many celebrities live poor lives beyond the glamour that they serve up on social media.

He made his thoughts known in a post on social media, arguing that it’s one of the biggest secrets in showbiz that most entertainers are only popular but not rich.

You would think he was talking about Ghanaian celebrities in his piece, considering most of our celebrities have the ‘popular but not rich’ disease that he’s talking about.

The Ghanaian movie industry is dead and is now home to jobless slay queens and kings doing anything to stay relevant. Music doesn’t pay much better and living fake lives is killing most of our celebrities and leading them into dangerous ashawobrity lifestyles.

AY might be talking about Nigeria but he might as well be talking about our own industry.
