A BBC presenter has been fired after making a seemingly racist joke about the royal baby recently born to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Harry and Meghan.
Danny Baker, a presenter with Radio 5 Live, posted a photo of a couple holding a chimpanzee by the arm and captioned it: “Royal Baby leaves hospital”.
The tweet sparked a massive online brouhaha and before he realized it, he had been fired from his position.
Like David Beckham the day prior, making a grave mistake leads to actual consequences in Britain, very much unlike what we are used to down here in Ghana.
Baker responded to his firing by defending himself online, claiming the joke was not a racist one but one he would have made about any other royal baby. The problem is for the first time ever there is a black member of the family thus whether he intended it or not, he should have seen a chimpanzee joke about a half black baby was not going to be well received.
“Sorry my gag pic of the little fella in the posh outfit has whipped some up. Never occurred to me because, well, mind not diseased.” he tweeted in his defence that the pic was not meant to be racist.
