Black Stars coach James Kwesi Appiah has plans to drop skipper Asamoah Gyan out of the squad for the upcoming 2019 African Cup of Nations to be held in Egypt next month.
According to a new report, Appiah is not convinced that Gyan has the requisite form or fitness to lead the team to glory and would thus drop him completely from the team.
The Black Stars would attempt to win their first trophy since 1982 when the Afcon commences next month and from the look of things would have to do so without Captain Gyan.
Appiah reportedly told a troupe of visiting journalists that he plans to drop Gyan from the tournament because “he’s battling with injury and also out of form”.
Appiah said he’ll build the team around deputy skipper Andre Ayew.
The Black Stars start their Afcon campaign on 25th June against Benin, with other Group C opponents Cameroon and Guinea-Bissau facing off in the other game.
