Any Ghanaian Artist Who Claims to Make Money Through Music Is A Big Liar — E.L Reveals the Truth

In an industry filled with braggarts such as Shatta Wale, Sarkodie and Kwaw Kese, 2016 VGMA artist of the year, E.L, has made it clear that music in Ghana does not pay at all.

According to the rapper born Elorm Adabla, they (musicians) cannot make any money from music because the business is not lucrative, whether you consider shows or album sales, there is very little money available to them.

EL, in a chat with Showbiz, said any Ghanaian artist who claims to make money from music itself is a big liar.

“Forget about the shows because I have mounted every show in Ghana and they don’t pay that much. The money we get from shows is peanuts; it only lasts for a month or two,” he said.

“No artiste in Ghana can tell me he built a house or made a big fortune with an album or a particular song. I challenge any musician to come and contest me….any artiste who says he made a fortune only through music is a liar,”

E.L added that the only way to make money through music is to use your platform for other businesses, otherwise you have to accept being broke.

“Music is just a means to an end. You cannot leave a legacy through music. It is actually the businesses you use your music for. How much can you sell an album or a song in Ghana?… It is how you direct your music into other businesses [that can make you rich].”

E.L started his own record label a couple of years ago and recently announced plans to go into fashion. He is really looking at other businesses to survive in this tight Gh economy.

In the past few weeks, E.L has admitted there’s no money in music whilst Kwaku Manu says there’s no money in acting. Being a celebrity in Ghana looks like its nothing but fame.
