Ten timeless artists have been nominated by organizers of the annual Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), Charterhouse, to compete for the prestigious prize of artiste of the decade.
The VGMAs celebrates its 20th anniversary this year and in addition to all the usual awards, one category has been added to reward the best artiste in the country over the past ten years.
According to Charterhouse, the ten nominees are artists who have had the biggest impact over the music scene within the past decade.
In explaining the criteria for the category, Charterhouse revealed that the chosen nominees are those who “over the last decade, they (the artists) have had the biggest impact, earned multiple nominations across the years in the VGMAs, have been relevant on the Ghanaian music scene and beyond; been very influential in music and showbiz and their craftsmanship in the industry has been phenomenal!”
The nominees include the three big S’ of dancehall, Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy and Samini; Sarkodie, Joe Mettle, Efya, Becca, Okyeame Kwame, R2Bees and Nacee and No Tribe.
The 2019 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards comes off May 18th.
