A Ghanaian footballer who currently plays in Qatar, Benjamin Acheampong, has been jailed 3 years by a court in Egypt for failing to settle a debt.
Acheampong, who used to play for Egyptian side Zamalek, was sued by his former agent who arranged his move to Egypt for failing to pay him his agent fees.
Wael Al-Kharbtawi arranged the Zamalek deal and was owed $23,000 as a result, but Acheampong refused to pay him the money.
That led the agent to sue the Ghanaian player in Egypt.
Acheampong, who currently plays in Qatar, refused numerous summons to appear in court and was thus sentenced in absentia.
The former Asante Kotoko player has been sentenced to 3 years in jail and also ordered to pay Wael the $23,000 he owes him.
