One of the legendary names in Ghanaian music, Professor Joseph Hansen Nketia, has died today, March 13th 2019.
According to 3news.com, Nketia, who is the grandfather of rapper M.anifest, passed away this afternoon, an occurrence that has been confirmed by his family.
Nketia had a long and storied career as a composer and academic, having authored some of the most important books on music and culture within the past few decades.
Throughout his career, he composed about 80 classical African music compositions and 200 scholarly publications in English and Twi, rising to the rank of Professor Emeritus.
About two years ago, M.anifest interviewed his legendary grandfather for the BBC in a hugely patronized interview.
Professor Nketia is the father of M.anifest’s mother, Rev Dr. Priscilla Naana Nketia. He was 97.
