Controversial, anachronistic Ghanaian lawyer, Maurice Ampaw, has called for the police to arrest rapper Yaa Pono for promoting the smoking of weed to students of the University of Ghana, Legon.
Ampaw, whose every single utterance makes it clear he wishes we were back in the 70s, claims that Yaa Pono has violated the law in relation to weed and must be made to answer to the authorities.
As we reported days ago, Yaa Pono made some comments to Legon students whilst performing there, ‘advising’ them that if they have trouble studying, they should simply smoke some weed.
Reacting to that report, Ampaw said Pono’s actions are illegal and thus he should be arrested and prosecuted.
“I will lead the charge to send the statement to the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for Yaa Pono, immediately, to be arrested and interrogated because if you look at the comment or the statement made, he is inciting, supporting, aiding and abetting the youth to smoke weed, and we know that the use of weed or smoking of weed is a criminal offence, so, I think that we [should] bring the attention of the security agencies to take up the matter. It is a serious issue,” Ampaw said in an interview with Class Fm over the weekend.
“…Yaa Pono should be arrested by now. You don’t make this irresponsible statement which promotes criminalities and you will be sitting somewhere and enjoying.” he added.
