The Egyptian and Liverpool forward Mohammed Salah has beaten back competition from four others to be crowned the BBC African Footballer of the Year for 2018.
Salah beat Sadio Made, Mehdi Benatia, Kalidou Koulibaly and Ghana’s own Thomas Partey to defend the crown he won for the first time last year.
Salah scored 44 goals in a landmark debut season for Liverpool last season, leading the Reds to 4th place in the Premier League and the UEFA Champions League final. He also led his country Egypt to her first ever world cup since 1990.
He has continued that form this season and already has 13 goals and 5 assits in 23 games in all competitions.
“It’s a great feeling to win again. I’m happy and I would like to win it also next year!” Salah told the BBC.
Salah also made the shortlist for the CAF Player of the Year award, which was announced earlier today. He becomes the first player since Nigeria’s Jay Jay Okocha to retain the award.
