The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has released the list of players and countries in contention for the 2019 edition of its annual awards.
The list for African Player of the year surprisingly leaves out Atletico Madrid and Ghanaian midfielder Thomas Partey, who only a few weeks ago made the five-man shortlist for BBC African Player of the Year.
CAF released a 10man shortlist for player of the Year with no Ghanaian in contention.
In the women’s game however, two players made the final shortlist, The Black Maidens’ Abdulai Mukarama and Black Queens captain Elizabeth Addo.
A panel selected by CAF would vote for the final award winners, which would be revealed at the awards gala slated for January 8 2019 in Dakar, Senegal.
