One of the deadliest stretch of roads in the country has claimed it’s latest casualty, an SHS student who died today.
According to reports, the student was knocked down by a taxi driver on the notoriously deadly, Madina-Adentan highway.
The accident occurred around 4pm today, Thursday November 8th, and becomes the latest in a string of accidents on that road which has left residents up in arms.
Myjoyonline reports that the victim is a student of the West Africa Senior High School (WASS).
She had gone to the school to register for her upcoming academic year, being part of the double track SHS program, when the accident occurred.
A taxicab run into her, slamming her to ground and leaving her dead.
That stretch of the highway is particularly deadly due to numerous structural issues, not least of which is the lack of a footbridge.
Angry residents have since taken over the road and are rioting, demanding that action be taken to make the road safer. They have reportedly burnt tires and are chanting ‘no more deaths’.
Both police and fire service personnel are on the scene. Incredibly, this death marks the 195th on the highway in 2018.
The taxi driver involved in the accident has reportedly turned himself over to authorities.
