United Nations Day is celebrated worldwide on October 24 to mark the day the UN Charter entered into fore in 1945. In honour of this, North Hills International School (NIS) has held its maiden UN Day event on Friday, October 19, 2018.
Under the theme “Kofi Annan, Celebrating the Diplomat – the Global Citizen,” the school celebrated the diversity of cultures and many nationalities of its community members. The festivity was highlighted by several lively performances by students of North Hills International School.
The celebration was crowned with an inter-house quiz competition where House Red emerged winners.
In an interview with Mrs. Emma Coleman Opoku , Head teacher North Hills International School, she said the school partook in the UN Day celebrations to demonstrate its universal orientation as an academic institution.
According to her, it is to help the pupils gain a better appreciation and understanding of the different cultures and peoples from all over the world.
“As an international school, we take a lot of pride in celebrating diversity and differing opinions. Learning and celebrating different cultures help us appreciate and understand other people better,” she said.
Mrs Opoku posed a challenge all, especially NIS pupils to continually learn the different cultures of the world as an effective way to generate and nurture friendship and understanding for a peaceful co-existence between people and nations which in itself is the primary objective of the United Nations.
North Hills International School is an ultra-modern school located at North Legon in Accra. The school is accredited by the Ghana Education Service and Cambridge International.
