The campus of one of Ghana’s premier universities the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is a little bit like a battle field at the moment, according to multiple reports from the campus.
Students and armed police personnel clashed earlier today during a protest mainly led by students of Katanga hall currently infuriated with management for some decisions.
Over the past several months the management of the school has taken numerous decisions which is stifling the freedom of students, the latest being the cancellation of a traditional Friday night jamboree known as ‘morale’.
The decisions has led to massive trolling of KNUST students as ‘SHS’ students due to the strict rules and regulations on them and in return they have started protesting.
Last week one such protest turned deadly, leading to a student getting injured.
Thus on Monday morning, students held several marches to protest the brutality and the management’s ‘oppression’ and policemen on campus to keep the peace reportedly clashed with them.
From what we’re learning the students went toe to toe with the police officers, with the students throwing stones whilst sporadic warning shots came from law enforcement.
Some property on the campus has reportedly been vandalized and the situation gets worse by the minute.
