Every once in a while we hear a story of someone dying whilst trying too hard to take a selfie, but we had no idea it was such an ‘epidemic’ that kills multiple people every year.
A new study by the US National Library of Medicine has revealed the number of people who have died in the attempt to take a selfie since 2011 till last year.
According to the study, 259 have died in the search for that perfect selfie since 2011, with most of the deaths involving the tops of mountains, tall buildings and lakes.
The researchers have recommended that such spots be designated as ‘no selfie zones’.

Some of the most frequent causes of selfie deaths included animal attacks, electrocution, fire and firearms, drowning, transport accidents and falling.
Researchers analyzed news reports on selfie deaths to reach their totals, and estimate that the totals could even be higher as some of the deaths might not be characterized as selfie deaths.
