Arguably, Charles Nii Armah Mensah Junior aka Shatta Wale, the founder and leader of one of the biggest movement on the continent of Africa ‘Shatta Movement’ is Ghana’s biggest Dancehall Musician.

Charles started his journey as Bandana in the early 2000s but circumstances beyond his measure and lack of proper structures in the Music Industry sent him into the wilderness or relegated him to the very bottom of the Music Game. He went into Musical hiatus for over a decade.

Five years ago, Bandana bounced back into the music industry again fully and properly rebranded as Shatta Wale. His song ‘Shatta City’ was a good one which got him nominated in the 2013 edition of Ghana Music Awards where he lost the Dancehall song of the year to his fellow Dancehall Artiste Kaakie. His outburst at the Auditorium was the beginning of a successful Music Career for him.

He took advantage of the Ghana Music Awards outburst and released a street banger ‘Dancehall King’ and has continued to release some of the biggest jams in Ghana and has won many Awards and laurels to his credit. He has the most Loyal Fanbase any Musician in Africa only dreams of. They are basically his backbone and they defend him whether what he does is nonsense, stupid or good.

All that I have summed up there right now indicates how good or huge Wale has become as an artist in Africa. Shatta Wale is now gold, whatever he touches or whoever song he features on mostly becomes a banger and a street anthem. Ever since his comeback, he has been a proponent of the popular Ghanaian mantra “Support Your Own”. Support your own literally means supporting Ghanaian Arts and Culture.

So if a big artist of Shatta Wale’s calibre has produced an album which is set to launch on October 13, 2018, with no Ghanaian artist featuring on the album then what’s the essence of his rants about “support your own”? Shatta Wale’s ‘Reign’ album only features Nigerian artist, Olamide ignoring the Ghanaian artist.

In the light of the above, Shatta Wale is an embodiment of hypocrisy ─an artist who practices the opposite of what he preaches.
