The government of Canada via a Canadian NGO has named Ghanaian ‘rap dacta’ Okyeame Kwame as an ambassador for a new program aimed at promoting reading among kids.
The appointment was made by the Canadian Organisation for Development through Education (CODE), in partnership with the National Book Trust.
The campaign is dubbed ‘Read with Me’ and it’s aimed at getting parents to read with their kids.
Research has shown that parents reading with their kids make them better at it than ordering the children to read on their own.
According to the director of the Ghana Book Trust, Mrs Genevieve Eba-Polley, Okyeame Kwame was chosen for his exemplary brand, his massive reach and his qualities as a good father.
The ‘rap dacta’, speaking at the event, said he did not like reading as a kid because his parents did not read with him and thus he knows of the importance of the campaign.
Okyeame Kwame has built an impressive philanthropic portfolio over the years and has even won awards for his long running Hepatitis B campaign.
The Canadian government was represented at the event by Corey Huntington.
