The CEO of Kantanka, Kwadwo Sarfo Jr. is livid–that President Akufo Addo has opened the borders of Ghana to German automobile dealer-VW after it was announced that VW will be opening an assembling plant in Ghana and a MoU has been signed on this following German Chancellor Angela Merkel’s visit to Ghana.
According to Kwadwo Sarfo Jr, his Ghanaian company has received no support from the government.
In fact, he says, the NPP government has failed to honour its promises to Ghana’s emerging automobile industry and therefore he finds it upsetting that the same government is making it worse for them by bringing in VW to compete.
In a series of angry tweets targeting Nana Akufo Addo on Friday, 21 August, the Kantanka man said:
“The German chancellor came to our beloved country to promote her automobile industry whiles our President……………, he began.
“What happened to your word Mr President NAkufoAddo,” he noted with a quote of the president promising to support local car manufacturers.
“I still remember this day like it was yesterday NAkufoAddo. If we didn’t get the support why then do you bring another company to compete against us,” he added.
He further said: “Mr President. Only thing we need is good policies to protect the automobile industry and help grow our local industries NAkufoAddo.”
