The ‘Chale Wote’ Street Art Festival, which is gradually becoming one of the largest street festivals in Ghana, went down in Accra over the weekend and like the previous years, that of this year was very massive and impressive.
The festival is typically held in the third week of August each year, to commemorate the Homowo festival brings thousands of people from within and outside of Ghana to celebrate the country’s arts and culture.

The term ‘Chale Wote’ takes its name from the word, ‘chale’ which means friend and ‘wote’, which means let’s go in the Ga language.
The street festival started in 2011and has been credited with building a reputation for Accra as a cultural hub in West Africa.

This year, the festival was reported to have received some Ghc300,000 or $ 62,000 from Ghana’s Ministry of Tourism as support.

Many of the art exhibitors this year took the opportunity to honour the memory of former UN Secretary-General and Noble prize laureate Kofi Annan, who will be buried in Ghana on Thursday, September 13 2018.
