Member of Parliament for Tamale North, Alhassan S. Suhuyini, has posited that the government must think of constructing a national mosque and shrine to top it all off after the construction of a national cathedral.
The NDC MP said it’s only fair that those edifices be set up since government is hell bent on the National Cathedral project.
The decision by government to demolish some judges quarters and other facilities to make way for the Cathedral, which many already see as needless, has got people criticizing the decision by the government.
Suhuyini, who used to be a broadcaster before moving into Parliament, told Citi TV that whilst he holds nothing against the idea for the Cathedral, in the interest of fairness other similar structures should be constructed for the other major religions in the country.

“If that’s government’s decision and they find it important, I have nothing against it. But you see, this is not a decision by the Christian community. It is a decision of the government to give them a national cathedral. Maybe when they finish, they will give us too a national mosque, and they will give the traditional believers a national shrine too,” Alhassan said.
“They do not have to wait for another faith to ask. Just like how they have taken this decision to dash a national cathedral to the Christian community, we expect them to do that. It should not be about another faith asking.” he added.
