Former governor of the Bank of Ghana and majority shareholder of uniBank, Dr Kwabena Duffour, has sued the Bank of Ghana over the recent collapse of uniBank.
In a suit filed at the High Court at Accra, Dr Duffour calls for the Central Bank to invalidate the licence of the Consolidated Bank, which was formed by the BOG to take over the five collapsed banks, including uniBank.
Dr Duffour names the Bank of Ghana as defendants in his suit, which he filed alongside Integrated Properties Limited, through which he owns uniBank shares.
He seeks numerous reliefs, including an injunction against the BOG stopping them from expropriating uniBank’s assets in the Consolidated Bank, stopping the BOG’s actions leading to uniBank’s licence revocation and to restore uniBank as a private company.
Dr Duffour’s suit comes after shareholders of uniBank earlier this week expressed anger and disappointment at the public leak of the KPMG report which served as the basis for the bank’s licence revocation, even though they have not been provided an official copy by the BOG despite repeated requests and the admissions in the report by KPMG that the information contained therein weren’t fully verified.
The reliefs sought by Dr Duffour in his suit are outlined below…
