Prevention is better than cure in every civilized nation but not in Ghana. In Ghana, the saying goes more like pretending to find a cure is better than prevention.
We often know the problems plaguing us but nobody does anything about it then when tragedy strikes, those in authority would make elaborate moves to pretend they are trying to find a solution to calm the populace then in the end nothing would happen.
That cycle has been activated once again with the news that a pregnant lady died at the Suntreso Government Hospital simply for the fact that the doctor wanted Ghc 500 to ‘motivate’ him to do his damn job.
Following the news hitting the media and becoming headline material, putting the image of the hospital into disrepute, management have spoken up.
According to GraphicOnline, the hospital has set disciplinary processes in motion to look into the issue including the formation of a committee.
“So far, management’s attention has been drawn to this issue and as demands we have informed the appropriate quarters and we have subsequently sent notification to the metro and regional health director,” Dr Thomas Agyarko, the medical superintendent at the hospital, added.
