An Independent Ethics Committee of FIFA has banned the President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kwesi Nyantakyi, for 90 days.
Nyantakyi’s ban follows his starring role in the Anas Aremeyaw Anas exposé Number 12, which dug into corruption in football in Ghana.
Nyantakyi was caught on camera taking a bribe from people he believed to be ‘investors’ but who turned out to be Anas’ investigators.
In the aftermath, Government dissolved the entire FA structure, which is expected to attract Fifa sanctions.
However, in the interim the first news coming out is that Nyantakyi has received a provisional 90 day ban from the body based on the recommendation of its Ethics Committee.
“The duration of the ban may be extended for an additional period not exceeding 45 days,” a media advisory released by the Committee Friday said.
“During this time, Mr Nyantakyi is banned from all football activities at both national and international level (administrative, sports or any other).
The ban comes into force immediately.”
