All over the country addiction to drugs is destroying many lives and in recent times one particular drug which has become commonplace and is ravaging the youth is the opiod painkiller Tramadol.
The stories of the harm caused by this drug, often highlighted by GhOne TV’s ‘State of Affairs’ program with Nana Aba Anamoah, is enough to melt any heart.
However despite the harsh spotlight shone on it by Nana Aba’s hardwork little has been done on the government level yet to attack the issue and we continue to hear of such more disheartening stories.
In one of the recent shows, a 17 year old lady known as Atswei told her story. According to her, she was impregnated by her boyfriend and now that she’s given birth she finds it hard to take care of her kid.
Her boyfriend is not a reliable source of money and thus she has turned to prostituting herself to men to raise money to feed her kid and fund her very expensive addiction to opiates.
Atswei revealed she spends as much as Ghc 30 a day to buy drugs and food for her kids and considering her addiction leaves her unable to hold any gainful employment s£x work is all she can do.
Atswei’s heartbreaking story is just one of many Nana Aba has shed the spotlight on and you can be sure they are many more which we don’t even know about and at this point we don’t know what government is waiting for before doing something concrete about this problem.
