After assaulting a female journalist from Adom FM at the NPP headquarters and accusing her of looking like an onion seller, Hajia Fati has incurred not only the wrath of journalists but also the good women who have dedicated their lives to selling onions. The unfortunate incident happened over the weekend when Adom FM’s Ohemaa Sakyiwaa took pictures of Hajia Fati without indicating that she was a certified journalist or asking for permission.
Hajia Fati didn’t take kindly to a supposed stranger taking photos of her and heaped a couple of slaps on the “unprofessional” journalist’s face. When she was confronted about her poor demeanour she said that the journalist in question did not look like a member of the press and rather looked like someone who sells onions in the market. This excuse for her assault infuriated all and sundry and her party the New Patriotic Party (NPP) issued a statement to dissociate themselves from her unfortunate behaviour and subsequent comments.
She was also invited by the police for questioning, after which she issued an apology to journalists in general and promised never to repeat such actions. But her battle doesn’t seem to be over as the association of onion sellers have come together to condemn the Hajia’s actions and are demanding that she apologises to them publicly or suffer their curses.
The Union of onion Sellers from the northern part of Ghana, speaking to OTEC FM’s Evans Agyei Sikapa in Kumasi, are insisting that Hajia Fati renders them a public apology. Failure to do so will cause them to come together to rain curses on her and her family. The traders, clearly disgusted by Hajia describing someone she taught was shabbily dressed as an onion seller who it was okay to slap showed up in their numbers to protest express their displeasure.
