Our leaders claim to love the country so much but the least chance they get, they fly outside for one reason or the other. They only patronize “made in Ghana” with their lips but when it comes down to it, they turn out to be as unpatriotic as the next guy. If some of them could get away with ruling the country from beyond the shores, you bet they would never step foot here.
The President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has gone on a one-week long vacation, his first since he was sworn into power last year. Accompanied by his wife the First Lady, Rebecca Akufo-Addo, his children and grandchildren, he is off the UK to escape the hustle and bustle of the shithole he claims to be a proud leader of. Time and again we encourage foreigners to visit the country when they decide to go on tours around the world but we avoid our own tourist sits like the plague.
Imagine what it would do for the tourism industry if the President had chosen to visit a few prominent sites for his first official vacation. But he and his family deserve better so they are off to the UK to relax because there is nowhere in Ghana fit for their royal selves. In his absence the Vice President Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will act in his stead. A statement signed by the Director of Communications Eugene Arhin said he left for the week-long vacation with his family on May 9th and will return on Wednesday 16th May.
“Whilst away, the President will honour two public engagements. On Friday, 11th May, 2018, he will speak at the University of Oxford, as part of its 2018 Africa Conference, on the meme “Enough Rhetoric! Catalysing an Era of Concrete Action”. He will on Saturday, 12th May, 2018, deliver me keynote address at the London Business School’s Africa Business Summit. On 13th May, 2018, the President will also take the opportunity of his vacation to attend the Anglican confirmation ceremony of his grandson, Louis, at his old school, Lancing College, in Sussex”, the statement said.
“President Akufo-Addo will return to Ghana on Wednesday, 16th May, 2018, and in his absence, the Vice President, Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, shall, in accordance with Article 60(8) of the Constitution, act in his stead”, it concluded.
