M.anifest Agrees With Hammer That Most Popular Song Award Should Not Be Voted For By The Public As Rich Artists Can Manipulate The Vote

Legendary Ghanaian music producer Hammer recently tore into the criteria for selecting the Most Popular Song Award at the VGMAs, arguing that the Most Popular Song should not be voted on but should be chosen based on data.
Hammer’s comments really rubbed some of Fancy Gadam’s fans the wrong way but they were generally accepted as sensible considering the name of the category.
Another person agreeing with Hammer is rapper M.anifest, who echoed that the award should be judged on merit and not public voting.
According to him, voting makes it such that some artists with resources can influence the outcome by mobilizing fans to vote for them.

“I get the idea behind the votes but I think it’s flawed. I would change it if I were in control. It becomes an election so the one with money win.” he said.
Fancy Gadam’s ‘Total Cheat’ won the most popular song award, based on public voting. However, most pundits and the public believed the popularity achieved by Patapaa’s ‘One Corner’ during the year in review was unmatched.
