The desire for Ghanaians to see justice served in the case of former COCOBOD CEO Dr Opuni and the state could be quashed as a new development hits the case.
The case has been temporarily put on hold by the presiding judge pending a Supreme Court ruling in another case which has a direct bearing on Opuni’s case.
Lawyers for Opuni had filed a motion seeking a ruling to order the state to turn over all documents to be used in Opuni’s prosecution, a motion the state is fighting.
With another case involving a former NCA head and the state before the Supreme Court, in which the lawyers of the defendants are seeking a similar ruling, presiding judge of Opuni’s case, Justice CJ Honyenugah, has decided to wait for the Supreme Court ruling which would set a precedent.
Thus Opuni’s prosecution has been temporarily suspended until a ruling is granted in the NCA case, which Justice Honyenugah would presumably follow in ruling on Opuni’s motion.
The former COCOBOD CEO is on trial on corruption charges stemming form his time in charge of the agency.
