One of the most annoying things about Ghanaian society is the extraordinary power given to family members by our traditional system, and the little protection the law gives to vulnerable women and children in such instances.
In some tribes, widowhood rites still continue, which is nothing but torture against a poor widow. Many other women also suffer similar fates to Daasebre’s wife in that they lose everything they built with their husbands to family once the husband dies.
Wife of the late highlife star Daasebre Gyamenah, Amina Ibrahim, has revealed she has undergone similar suffering since her husband passed last year.
Speaking on Adom TV Monday, she revealed that Gyamenah’s brother threw her out of the home she had shared with her husband once he passed away.
“I am staying at my friend’s place at New Town in a single room. I used to live with Daasebre at Kokomlemle until his death but his big brother broke into the house and threw my things out”, she said.
According to her, things have been more chaotic since her husband’s death due to the scuffle between his paternal and maternal sides and she and her son has suffered as a result.
