CEO of Slip Music and veteran Ghanaian music executive, Mark Okraku Mantey, has attempted to set Mzbel straight with her arrogant claim that songs of today make no sense.
Mzbel, who we don’t really remember making any sensible song herself, claimed in a recent interview that songs these days have no sensible lyrics to make them proper hits unlike some of the songs she composed back in the day.
“Back then, music used to have like a storyline, it’s well-done…you can’t compare music of today to music then,” she said.
“You hear a lot of hit songs, people are happy about it, but the content has nothing in it. In a lot of the songs the musician just says one thing, and keep repeating it over and over.” she added.
But responding to the claim, Mantey said what makes a good song is about more than just its lyrics.
“If you say music, music is the instrumentation, the rhythm is the music, and then the lyrics are lyrics,” he said.
He further explained that music can cross barriers and be enjoyed by people who don’t even understand the lyrics, indicating that it’s not just lyrics which make a good song.
