Former President of the Republic of Ghana, Flt. Lt. Jerry John Rawlings has disclosed that the former United Nations Secretary General, Mr Kofi Annan strongly suggested that he should open a foreign account.
Mr Rawlings revealed this when he was given a platform during a meeting organised by the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Accra over the weekend.
“My wife and I opened a foreign account at the urging of former United Nations Secretary-General, Kofi Annan. He told me he will need me to help in the UN anti-AIDS campaign and once in a while the UN will pay me some allowance” He said.
Mr Rawlings also added, “My wife and I were in office for nineteen years, by the time we were leaving office, we did not have even one dollar foreign account,”
He explained that the account was not active after the UN anti-AIDS campaign program was closed.
“The Campaign has ended long ago and that account has been closed. I don’t have any hidden foreign account and she (Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings) does not,” he said.
