Shoot To Kill Anti Galamsey Operation Is Unconstitional — Alban Bagbin

Parliment of Ghana was divided on the 14th of March over shoot-to-kill operations against the illegal mining also known as ‘Galamsey’ destroying our lands and river bodies.
This division rose up after the Majority Leader, Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and the First Speaker Deputy Speaker, Mr Joseph Osei-Owusu, suggested that the best solution to end our water bodies being destroyed by the illegal miners is to authorize the security agencies the right to ‘shoot to kill’.
The Deputy minority leader and MP for Nadowli-Kaleo, honourable Alban Sumani Kingsford Bagbin seconded by the minority leader that the shoot to kill operation is unconstitutional.
Mr Bagbin in his speech said, “I don’t believe in the use of force. It is only in war situations that you to shoot and kill. We have appealed to their conscience. Let’s work together and find a solution.”

The Speaker of Parliament, Professor Aaron Mike Oquaye, came to a conclusion that if persuasion fails, then force must be applied. He, therefore, caution criminals that security had the right to use force to prevent crime.
