There is little doubt that the VGMA’s is a little Accra centred and an artist who fails to break out in either the capital or Kumasi faces a disadvantage in the awards show.
‘Total Cheat’ hitmaker Fancy Gadam says he has been a victim of this bias in that he wasn’t nominated for artist of the Year at the 2018 VGMAs.
According to the Tamale based star, he worked hard more than most artists in the year under review and deserved a nomination for the topmost award but didn’t receive it because he’s not based in Accra.
Gadam was nominated in two categories but his manager believes it should have been more than that.
“We were all expecting that Fancy Gadam will be nominated in the Artiste of the Year category because he worked hard in the year under review and had it all going well for him so we are wondering why he was not nominated in that category,” Gadam’s manager Jamal told Showbiz.

“The fans are more disappointed than Fancy Gadam himself, they feel it in their bone because they feel he is over qualified…If Accra was Tamale and Tamale was Accra, he would have had an upper hand, he would have been comparable to none,” he added.
According to him, they can’t even believe that ‘Total Cheat’, which was one of the biggest hits of the year and featured Sarkodie, couldn’t even make it into the ‘Best Collaboration’ category.
