Barely a week after Rwanda shut down hundreds of churches for being unsafe, nonchalant Ghanaian authorities have sat by and watched a church collapse in Ghana lead to a fatality.
The Spoken Ministry International Church, situated in Agona Swedru, collapsed during service on Sunday, coming down on worshippers who had gathered in the unsafe structure housing the church.
According to reports, the incident occurred during a huge downpour which engulfed the area on Sunday morning around 10am, and the church collapse killed one person, leaving 30 others including the pastor, injured, some with seriously fractured limbs.
The injured victims were rushed to the Swedru Government Hospital, with the more serious ones later transferred to Korle-Bu in Accra.
It’s an understatement to say many churches in Ghana worship in evidently unsafe structures, mostly after starting out whilst they construct a more permanent home. As usual in Ghana, no one regulates anything and such an avoidable disaster has occurred, claiming a life.
