Veteran actress Grace Omaboe has launched a scathing attack on the currently discontinued Ghanaian show ‘Cantata’.
According to Maame Dokono, the show was a disaster with terrible acting and storyline and that was because showrunner Nana Bosomprah II didn’t want to bring in seasoned actors.
Cantanta was a very popular show during its first few years, but the quality drastically dropped as some of its more popular actors left the show.
Speaking on Starr Fm, Maame Dokono did not hold back on her criticism of the show.
“Everything about Cantaata was bad, did you like it? no, no, no…I didn’t like it. There were few episodes that were good, the rest were… The story lines were bad, the actors in there were not actors, Nana just picked people from anywhere to act.” she said.
She argued that in contrast to ‘Obra’, which had a well educated cast of actors, ‘Cantanta’ could not boast of a talented cast.
“The Obra (show) that you see most of us are educated, except Auntie Esi, and the old actors we picked from Brigade Concert Party, even she was trained in the Brigade Concert Party, Kwame Nkrumah’s time. Station Master for instance was a musician composing songs for highlife greats, David Dontoh, Waakye are graduates, Charles Ampofo is a broadcaster, Cecilia Agyei was a lecturer at the University of Ghana and a whole lot of us educated.” she opined.
