2017 VGMA Artist of the Year, Joe Mettle, has pushed back against the top 20 most played songs in Ghana list released by the Musicians Union of Ghana, describing it as merely the opinion of the compilers.
The list infamously did not contain even one gospel song, which has sparked a conversation over whether gospel music is a dead force in Ghanaian music.
Mettle, who as a gospel artiste won the topmost award at the 2017 VGMA’s, disagrees with the list.
According to him, until MUSIGA releases the methodology of the study, it remains their opinion and nothing else.
“Until we are shown the bases of the research, the top 20 most played songs is just their opinion and that cannot be challenged,” he said on Happy Fm.
The list, released last week by the Union, found Ebony’s Sponsor as the most played song of last year, and contained zero gospel songs in the top 20.
