WWE superstar John Cena is making the transition to Hollywood, like so many before him, and he has landed another role in an animated series soon to air on Nickelodeon.
Cena has been announced as the villain for the next iteration in the Ninja Turtles franchise, “Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.”
The 40 year old has been cast as Baron Draxum, who according to the show’s synopsis, is an “alchemist warrior mutant who seeks to turn all of humanity into mutants.”
John Cena expressed delight to E! News about the role, saying he grew up watching the Ninja Turtles and considers it a ‘dream come true’ to star in one.
“It’s really, really fun selfishly to be part of that because I grew up with it.” he said.
Born John Felix Anthony Cena, the Massachusetts native is considered one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, having won a world championship in his career for a record 16 times. Only one man in history, Ric Flair, has accomplished the feat, and Cena is widely expected to break the record before finally retiring.
In recent years, he has been branching out into Hollywood and landed numerous movie roles including in ‘The Marine’, ’12 Rounds’, ‘Trainwreck’ and more recently playing the title role in the animated movie ‘Ferdinand’.
